A question I had to ask myself after completing a lesson in my Bible study one day is this: “Is God a resident or a visitor in my life?” Now I know from Galatians 2:20 (which is my life’s verse) that when I trusted Christ as my Savior, Christ did come and live in me. But do I live every day of my life like I believe that truth (that He is a resident)? Do I sometimes go through my day without acknowledging His presence? Do I just try to do things in my own strength and then “when I need Him,” treat Him as a visitor that can meet my need at that moment and send Him on His way until the next time I have a need? How sad that would make my Savior feel.
There was a saying in that same lesson that said:
Joy
is the flag flown
from the castle
when the King is in residence
If we (I) want true joy, we need to be aware of His presence in our lives (thank Him for that) and let Him order our steps, control our thoughts, give us the strength we need, the peace, the comfort, and the joy that only He can supply. Let Him be a resident in every single room of your heart.
So, let me ask you. Is God a resident or a visitor in your life? Perhaps He’s neither; but you can change that, too, by accepting Him as your Savior. Won’t you do that today?
