Several pictures and figurines fill up the shelves in my living room and the above “couple” is one of them. It has often reminded me of my husband and I in our “younger years!” I think most of us dream about getting married, raising a family, and simply “growing old” together with our mate. We plan for our future and retirement days and think about the travelling we will do together and seeing our grandchildren grow up and even getting married themselves.
We don’t think about the “what ifs” when we are young.
What if our health fails?
What if our finances “go down the tube?”
What if “death does us part?”
God’s word says:
“For you know not what shall be tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then it vanishes away.” James 4:14
“The days of our years are threescore years and ten: and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” Psalm 90:10
Go ahead, make plans, there’s nothing wrong with that. Just remember your plans may get changed! (My husband’s and my plans certainly got changed suddenly).
Because we don’t know the number of our days, let me encourage you to live a godly life–being kind, loving, forgiving to your spouse and other members of your family as well as friends and acquaintances. Keep God first in your life; reading His Word daily, praying and seeing that your family is faithfully attending church. This is so important in this day and age.
Don’t live with any regrets because that may be one thing you leave behind!
