Because of an upcoming drive over Easter, I decided to have my tires checked. One friend examined them and thought they looked all right but suggested I go to a tire store just to make sure. One of the mechanics grabbed his tool and did some measuring. Yes, they looked all right, he told me; I still had some tread on them, but his concern was that my tires showed major signs of dry-rotting. My tires were old and not really safe for a trip. New tires it was!
Your outer appearance may say to everyone, “You’re fine,” when in reality you’re not so fine. Have you been good at putting on a “spiritual face” when around other people, but at the same time your insides are screaming something entirely different? You need to get out your spiritual measuring tool (the Bible) and know that God sees your heart, the real you; God is not deceived. It may mean you need to put off the “dry-rot” of the old man and put on the “new man.” It’s not safe to keep letting the “old man” drive your life. Make a change, a decision, put on the new man and trust the Holy Spirit to steer you in the right direction, whatever trip lies ahead.
Don’t deceive yourself and think everything is all right when it may not be.
