I had the privilege of being the speaker for my daughter’s mother/daughter luncheon at their church this past weekend. Their theme was “The Legacy of a Mother.” I chose as my topic “Jochebed,” the mother of Moses, and did a monologue along with a devotion using an acrostic of the word basket to summarize her legacy.
There is nothing wrong with leaving money or things to our children but wouldn’t it be wonderful to leave them the example of a godly woman – one who has loved, trusted, and served the Lord all her life and has shown what it’s like to completely rely on the Lord when all kinds of storms come our way. We need to show and tell the next generation what an awesome God we have, One who will never fail us, never leave us, give us strength, and will hear and answer our prayers and give us the wisdom we need when we don’t know what to do.
So, I used the word basket, thinking about Jochebed as the mother of baby Moses. Let me share it with you:
B – elieved God’s Word
A – cted in wisdom
S – trong faith
K – new God’s promises
E – xample of a yield life
T – rusted God for the results
Her faith was a faith of action, a faith that trusted God for the results (because she knew what her God was like and what He could do), a faith that was rewarded by God. Wouldn’t this be a wonderful legacy to leave? What will yours be like?
