My kids and several of my grandchildren routinely go to a gym for their workouts. Part of their workout is in the weight room. When I hear how many pounds they are “bench pressing” or simply lifting, I’m amazed. So, how do they do it? Little by little. They didn’t start out lifting 100 pounds, but by pushing themselves by adding heavier weights over a period of time. They each have goals and rather than being satisfied at staying the same, they know they need to keep adding more weight. That’s the only way to make progress.
At times I can picture myself in a room with a name plaque over the door–“The Weight Room!” It all has to do with my faith. I have been saved by faith–that’s great. I know my faith has grown over the years–that’s good, too. But are you like me–wanting to have a stronger faith? I almost hate to say it, but guess what–most of the time our faith grows or is made stronger when we are in the “Weight Room!” What do I mean? We don’t select the “weights,” God does. They come in all shapes and sizes, but God knows which ones we need that can take us to a greater lever of faith. Sometimes it may feel like a crushing weight and there’s no way you can lift it yourself. But God never adds those weights to push us to our limit. He wants us to trust Him, ask for His strength and He will give us the “faith muscles power” we need. When a new “weight” comes along (trials, temptations, depression, doubt, sorrow, finances, family issues, etc.) you will know, that God knows you are ready to grow some more.
Just remember, this is a lifetime process. We may feel like we are constantly in that “Weight Room.” So, let’s add to the title of our room and also call it the “WAIT ROOM,” as we wait to see what God has ahead for those who are truly walking by faith.
