As I was driving to meet some friends for a little reunion this week, I came to a barrier across the road. There was no way to go any farther. Unfortunately, this was my own fault. If I’d “really paid attention” to what the several signs were saying, I would have realized that sooner or later there would be no going any farther. I had to backtrack and find another way to go. What should have been a 30 minute ride became an hour, which also meant my ride home would be mostly in the dark; not something I liked to drive in.
Have you ever come to a road block in your life? Plans you set out and directions you headed in, only to be brought to a standstill? Sometimes they can happen simply because we think we can keep going on our own and when that barrier crosses our path we are devastated.
No matter what we set out to do, whatever direction we are headed in, we need to commit all things into God’s hands and He will direct our path. Sometimes it may mean we have to backtrack and it may take longer than we anticipated to reach that destination, but it will be the right way.
“And the Lord, He it is who goes before you, He will be with you, He will not fail you, neither forsake you; fear not, neither be dismayed.” Deut. 31:8
Whose directions are you following?
