My weekend was one I’ll never forget. My youngest son, Lyle, said he wasn’t going to be able to visit on my birthday, but said he was coming this past weekend and was going to take me out for dinner for my 80th birthday. He wouldn’t tell me where, but said I should dress “kind of nice!” An hour before it was time to leave, my pastor called and asked if I could stop by the church at 1:00 as he had something for me. Sure, no problem, as that was close to when we planned to leave anyway. So, we drove to the church, walked in, went up the stairs looking for pastor, pushed open the doors and heard, “Surprise!” And what a surprise it was. The fellowship hall was filled with people and as I continued to glance around the room through my tears, I saw more and more of my family – all my kids, all my grandkids and great grandkids, so many friends, and then I saw my sister from Florida (who I thought was coming later in the month). What a blessed day for my 80th birthday. This was the first time all my family (except 5) has been together in years.
As wonderful as this was, I know there is going to be another reunion one day. We don’t know when, but that is in God’s timing. Yes, the birthday decorations were beautiful, but I know heaven’s grandeur will far surpass it. And this reunion won’t be for just a day, but for eternity. No more saying, “Good-bye” (which I hate to do). As much as I look forward to my family being together in heaven, my precious Savior is the One I long to see and thank Him for all He has done for me.
But, let me ask you (I know I have before), will I see you there, too? The Lord’s invitation to you is “to come,” believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved and look forward to that greatest reunion of all, in heaven.
