I have been enjoying our rehearsals for the Christmas play this year, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” It’s fun “stepping outside of yourself” and playing a character so unlike yourself.
I’m afraid some people don’t want others to know who they really are and they can act out or portray someone completely different from what their inner being is actually like.
Some people are carrying around hurts and grief, and struggles, but when asked, “How are you?” they put on a happy face and say, “I’m fine,” when in reality they are crushed inside.
A lot of people have known me over the years as, “the pastor’s wife,” which I loved while serving with my pastor-husband. But I haven’t been that for a long time. However, I never wanted anyone to see me any different as a pastor’s wife than from anyone else in our churches. I’m just me!
I’m also learning it’s okay to answer the “How are you?” question with, “Actually, I’m not doing so well.” It gives others a chance to pray for you and even help in some way.
But all of us should actually want to be like “Someone” else! You know who that Person is – the Lord Jesus Christ. Oh, what an example to emulate. We should strive to grow to be like Him more and more. Don’t try to hide who you are and what you are feeling, and be someone or something you are not. Be honest with yourself and to others. Just remember who you are. God made you – you! So, every day – JUST BE YOU!
