As I was getting ready to go away for the weekend to see some of my family, there were things I checked out on my car (especially since I travel alone). Probably you check the same things: tires, brakes, lights, oil, windshield washer, etc. We like to know everything is in good working order.
But when I head out I always say, “Okay, Lord, here we go again. It’s just You and me!” And I realize that even though my car may be in pretty good shape (as old as it is) I rely on God to keep me safe (as He did once again – one tire was flat after my arrival), to keep my car running, to protect me from all the crazy and aggressive drivers out there, to keep me awake and alert, and not to get lost (even with a GPS as they can make mistakes).
I remind myself of Psalm 139 – God knows me, He knows the path I’m on (He “hems” me in), He is always present and even “if I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost part of the sea, even there His hand leads me and His right hand holds me.” And that’s why I can be happy and sing, “For His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me,” as I’m driving down the highway! And I know He watches you also. Don’t ever forget that.
