Just turn on your TV and listen to the news and we hear and see anything but tender mercy demonstrated. Or consider your workplace, your home, and, yes, perhaps even your church. What’s happening in our country? What’s happening to us as individuals? Many have become people who are intolerant of one another; and when others don’t agree with them, or believe the same way they do, or live the same way they do, they’re quick to condemn and think they must have a hatred for them. Just because someone doesn’t agree with you doesn’t mean they hate you. Have they forgotten a simple fact; and that is God made us all different. Different is good! Different opinion is good! What a boring world this would be if we were all the same, thought the same, liked the same things, did the same things. Instead of all this anger and hatred, let’s be kind and considerate of others, tolerant of others (something that is so lacking today). Let’s bring back tender mercies, being kind one to another.
Just consider how God has demonstrated that to us. We all are so underserving of God’s love and yet because of His endless mercy, God sent His Son, the Lord Jesus, to die for our sins that we might have everlasting life.
Here’s the definition of mercy: kindness, loving kindness, unfailing love, tenderness, faithfulness.
Jesus was all that while He lived on earth and ministered in so many ways (giving us a perfect example to follow). That’s what He wants us to be like.
As the non-Christian world falls more and more away from showing kindness and tender mercy, let’s not follow the same path and be drawn down into their same ungodly treatment of others. In spite of how we are treated or thought of, may God help us to be people who show compassion, love others, and be kind; no matter what!
Guard your heart and attitude this week and remember God’s mercy toward you; and show the same to a very needy lost world.
