Open your Bible – it’s where we learn about Jesus. Open a hymn book – it’s also where we learn about and sing about Jesus (who He is, what He does for us) and where we find that, “There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus, No, not one! No, not one!”
If you’re looking for a best friend–look no farther. Here’s what we have in our best Friend (also found in the great hymn, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”).
What a Friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry Ev’rything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry Ev’rything to God in prayer!
Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged–Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness -Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Are we weak and heavy laden, Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge – Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee – Thou wilt find a solace there.
Whatever you need, whatever your heartache, here’s a friend whose always with you, who knows all about you, who will give you peace and encouragement, if you simply go to Him in prayer. He is always with us, He will always hear, and He will always answer. “There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus — “No, Not One! No, Not One!” As my husband used to like to say, “And that, you can take to the bank!.”
