Here I go again, talking to myself. My week was so full this past week that my “list” could hardly hold one more thing. Yes, it was “MY” list, full of things I felt had to be done – things I considered “urgent,” but were they “important?” Sure, some were scheduled appointments that couldn’t be changed (understandable), but what about the others? I kept telling myself through the week there were a couple of people on my mind that I should call and see how they were doing, but that time slipped away too often as I continued to be engrossed in my project. I’m sure it was the Lord who prompted me to stop what I was doing one evening and do the “important” thing and contact these people. I’m so glad I did.
Don’t we do that (all too often)? Our intentions are good, but all of our “urgent” things on our lists seem to take priority. And let’s not get upset when our “urgent” plans may be interrupted by something very important. God may want to use us in a very special way.
I have used this acrostic before and I think it’s very applicable here. If you want real JOY in your life – and keeping the IMPORTANT things first – remember this:
J – Jesus
O – others
Y – you
That’s the order that will keep you on the IMPORTANT track.
