Ever since I had my heart attack in 2020 I have made it a practice when I first wake up in the morning to say to the Lord: “Thank you for a good night’s sleep, thank you for another day, thank you for the breath I am breathing.” I don’t take any of that for granted. And then I hum or sing, “This is the Day the Lord hath made…I will rejoice and be glad in it.”
None of us is guaranteed tomorrow, are we? Our times are in God’s hands, whether they be many or few. Jesus told a parable about a rich man who had so much goods he wanted to pull his barns down and build larger to hold everything for many years and he could just eat, drink and be merry. But God said, “Thou fool, this night your soul shall be required of you; then whose shall these things be?”
Obviously, this man’s focus was all on himself with no thoughts of the Lord or a relationship with Him. I don’t want to be like that, do you? I want to continue to serve the Lord for as long as He gives me breath. I don’t want to be ashamed whenever that day comes that He calls me home. How about you?
