I know thunder and lightning storms can be scary, but I actually enjoy them, especially at night. The noise is powerful, but the lit-up sky is awesome. What a tremendous display of our powerful, awesome God! We don’t need to be afraid; just trust Him through them.
What about those thunder and lightning storms in our lives? These are more than just ordinary rain showers and they, too, can be pretty scary and unnerving. Just a few weeks ago my daughter called with news that was unnerving for both of us. She was informed she had a 70% blockage in the main artery of her heart. Since I have had a heart attack and quadruple by-pass I was “more than concerned!” Within two weeks they scheduled a procedure and quickly learned the artery was 90% blocked instead of 70%. It was a successful procedure – artery cleaned out and a stent was added.
God’s timing and watch care was crucial in this instance. Her check-up and tests were “just at the right time,” a wrong report was given to her but a “recheck” by the doctor spotted the problem and the procedure was quickly scheduled.
I think of this as a thunder and lightning storm – the rumble of thunder: the news of a blockage; the lightning: realizing it was worse than they thought. But in all of it, God displayed what a wonderful God He is; so powerful, awesome, and loving as He placed His hands on my daughter’s life.
You, oh God, are certainly with us during those dark storms (we don’t have to be afraid), and only You can whisper, “Peace be still,” to our souls.
