Last Sunday there was lots of snow on the ground and rain was coming. I feared my basement might once again have some water issues in one corner of my furnace room. I purchased some Gorilla Foam Sealer hoping to avert a problem. I read all the fine print – it’s uses and all the directions, but I somehow missed some information on the bottom front of the can (also in fine print) – “WARNING – extremely flammable.”
My furnace room is very small and so I had to reach around the furnace, pipes and fixtures and point the can as best I could and squeeze the trigger on the pump handle to shoot out the foam, trying to hit where I thought the leak was in the corner. It wasn’t a spray, but came out almost like a thick rope foam. However, after a few minutes, all of a sudden there was an explosion and flames shot up in the corner. I feared about the gas furnace and what could happen, but the switch was soon turned off to that. Praise the Lord, my tenant ran for the fire extinguisher, I pulled out the pin and aimed it at the fire and it was put out in seconds. The smoke and fumes were terrible.
I can’t begin to tell you all the details about the hours of clean-up that night with the help of my tenant. The next day I prayed and asked God for the strength I needed to be able to crawl on my side under pipes and fixtures to reach behind and on the sides of the furnace and chisel the hardened foam that didn’t burn up that was on on the floor and wall, then sweep with a small broom and vacuum up what I could. It was a long 4 hour job!
I really believe God spared my life once again as that can could also have burst into flame while I was holding it. The next morning I was still shaken and as I began my devotions I told the Lord that I needed something special from His Word. I read the “Daily Bread” first and then, of course, turned to the scripture. I was overwhelmed by where it took me and what I read. (Please read the verse displayed if you haven’t already done so). I went to tears in complete awe and gratitude as there is no question in my mind that was exactly what God did for me. What a loving, caring, protective, all-mighty God we have. I can’t thank Him enough for His watch care over me. Don’t ever think God doesn’t care for you, because He does.
