There it was – just as plain as day–I walk by it every other day, but Thursday I couldn’t go past it without being reminded of some things from this rock! It’s pretty huge laying beside the sidewalk, and from scripture, I pictured Jesus leaning on a rock in the Garden of Gethsemane praying as He knew what was ahead for Him at Calvary. For some reason on Thursday, I felt as if Jesus was there praying for me. The bible says He is our advocate and He does pray for us. Aren’t you thankful for that? especially when we have those days when we just don’t know what to pray for or how to pray.
Jesus is also called our Rock:
“For you are my rock and my fortress” Ps. 31:3
And He is the firm foundation of our faith. The hymn, “The Solid Rock” by Edward Mote puts it this way:
“My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ the solid Rock, I stand–All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand.
Ephesians tells us:
“And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ himself being the chief corner stone.”
Just think, God plants our feet on solid ground when we become his child. We may falter, but we are always kept in His hand. And this same awesome God doesn’t just let us flounder in trials, He prays for us; He knows us; He cares for us; and He knows what we need better than we know ourselves.
Are you downcast today, don’t know which way to turn, just feeling alone or afraid? Go to the Rock. There you’ll find peace, hope, comfort and so much more.
“Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure.” II Tim. 2:19
