Do you remember the song, “The Family of God,” by Bill Gaither? The chorus says:
I’m so glad I’m a part of the family of God–I’ve been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood! Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod; For I’m part of the fam-‘ly, the fam-‘ly of God.
That was brought home to me Friday at another one of my appointments. Usually I’m in and out fairly quickly, but that day was different; and I believe it was the Lord’s “appointment plan.” A mother and her son came in and she sat next to me. It wasn’t long after I commented, “Praise the Lord,” to one of her statements, that we realized we each were a believer. In the brief time we had together sharing, it seemed like we had known each other for years. But isn’t that just the way it is when you are a part of the family of God? It is very special. There’s an immediate bond like nothing else. I think we both felt that way.
Our church family should be the same way. And can’t you just imagine what heaven will be like–not just familiar family and friends will be there, but ALL of God’s family from around the world will be there; and we will be a part of it. Wow!
“Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called the children of God:…Beloved, now are we the children of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.” I John 3:1,2
“Friends will be there I have loved long ago; joy like a river around me will flow;…..O that will be glory for me!” (From the great hymn “O That Will Be Glory) How about you?
