Last week I decided to go over to our mall here in Batavia and (no, not shop–as it’s pretty empty) but to walk and cover every hallway, nook and cranny that I could. On my first round I had a short conversation with a young teenage girl. She was with 5 other friends who were sitting and just having fun. I observed them as I continued to walk. On round two one of the teen boys made a friendly comment as did another one. I stopped and said, “I just have a feeling; but tell me–are all of you Christians?” The answer, “Yes” from each of them. I mean, how often would you see teenagers stop what they are doing and talk to a stranger–especially an older gray-headed lady? I knew they weren’t typical teenagers. I had more fun with them as we laughed and talked.
But isn’t it amazing how the spirit of God can make us realize we are in the presence of other believers? They all were from different churches and yet all believers. There’s just a special bond with those who are children of God.
And that’s what makes our fellowship in church so special. There’s a common bond that can’t be denied and it’s all because of our wonderful Savior and Lord–the Lord Jesus Christ. We need this fellowship more and more; especially with all the craziness going on in the world. We need the love and encouragement from one another that we can’t get from anywhere else.
Aren’t you glad you are a part of the family of God? Do you remember this little chorus?
I’m so glad I’m a part of the family of God–I’ve been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood.
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod;
For I’m part of the family, the family of God (William Gaither)
If you are missing something in your life it may be that you need to be in church and find that fellowship that is so special.
There’s nothing like it!
