This hummingbird “wind catcher” hangs just off from my patio. The harder the wind blows the faster it spins and the faster the wings of the bird flap. It’s so much fun and enjoyable to watch. When the wind is still, of course, there is no action.
Don’t you think sometimes we can get stuck and stale in our Christian walk and there’s just no action? I think God send the winds of adversity in our lives to “get us going again!” That certainly can come in a variety of ways: health issues, family problems, financial needs, loss of loved ones and job security, and just plain heart-wrenching disappointments.
So what does God want to produce in us when He sends those winds? I believe He wants us to simply trust Him and to grow in our spiritual life and become more like His Son, Jesus Christ. He wants us to “spread our wings and fly” and to be the beautiful example to others so that as they watch our lives they’ll realize being a Christian does make a difference.
“My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked of him. For whom the Lord loves He chastens and scourges every son whom he receives.” Heb. 12:5b,6
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run (and fly-my words), and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
So spread your wings and let the winds make you fly!
