One of my greatest fears is that of falling. Years ago I did fall face first onto a cement sidewalk and ended up with a not so pretty black eye. Now, being much older, my walk is slower on the ice and in the snow as I carefully plant my feet one after another. Other times it may simply mean – stay home!
So, what causes a person to “slip – slid – and fall” spiritually? I think, first of all, they become careless. They take their focus off from the Lord and center it on themselves. They aren’t careful where they are walking and they begin to slip farther away from the Lord. They don’t see the need to be in the Word every day or be in the house of the Lord on Sundays or other days of the week and now they are sliding down hill farther into sin. If they aren’t willing to repent and ask for forgiveness and continue to want to live like the world, the fall is imminent and it will be hard.
Oh, be careful what you see, what you hear, where you walk, where you go, what you do. Satan would love to see you slip, slide and fall away from the Lord. Don’t let that happen.
I hope the words of this old hymn will be an encouragement to you.
When we walk with the Lord in the light of his Word, what a glory He sheds on our way! While we do His good will, He abides with us still, And with all who will trust and obey. Trust and obey, For there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Yes, to trust and obey will keep us from a slip, slide and a fall.
