What does it take to make you happy? To make you satisfied? The world’s emphasis is on doing whatever is exciting or having everything you need that will please you; after all you deserve it!
Sometimes it takes a hardship, an illness, a financial disaster to finally make you realize what the important things in life really are and that you don’t need “things” or entertainment of all sorts to make you happy. These “things” are only temporal – they aren’t going to last.
Our relationships (family, loved ones, friends) are what we need to concentrate on and grow to the point where they bring us the most satisfaction and happiness. But more so, think about your relationship with the Lord. What’s it like? Are you satisfied? Is Christ satisfied with you? Are you finding that Christ is truly your all in all – that He is the only One who can truly satisfy all your needs? After all – look what He does: He is our salvation, our peace, hope, refuge, provider, protector, guide, He hears our prayers, forgives and is preparing a place for us in heaven. How can we not be satisfied in Someone like that?
So, let’s not focus on the temporal things, but let’s find our satisfaction in the things that are eternal – in the only One who truly satisfies.
The chorus of the hymn by Clara Williams says:
Hallelujah! I have found Him – Whom my soul so long has craved! Jesus satisfies
my longings; Thro’ His blood I now am saved.
