Our ladies “community Group” just finished for the season. We’ve had a great time together. Our Bible study has been, “A Woman After God’s Heart.” One of my favorite lessons was on Ministering Praise. I think we all need lessons and reminders about this topic because it’s not always easy to have an attitude of praise, especially when our hearts are burdened with trials and needs of all sorts.
David, in the bible is a good example for us to follow. He is called a man after God’s heart. Sometimes we may wonder why or how that could be because of some of the sinful things he did. But he was always quick to acknowledge his sin, repent and return to fellowship with God. And other times when he was fleeing for his life; rather than feeling sorry for himself and throwing a pity party, he says, “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.” Psalm 57:7
We need to do the same thing. Hebrews 13:15 tells us to offer the “sacrifice of praise to God continually.” This means even when we don’t feel like it, we will be like David, and let praise come out of our mouths.
So, when we are down in the pits, there is a choice to make: focus on our griefs and cares or focus on God and his attributes. Just think how much delight God will find in us when praising Him is truly a sacrifice.
