For several weeks I’ve added exercising on a reclining bike at the Y. All the new equipment makes it possible for you to choose a video of scenery which you can “travel on,” so it feels like you are moving down paths, up and down and around curves. Unfortunately, it makes me dizzy, so I end up looking at a stationary picture, going nowhere! At least it seems that way. But watching the dials shows just what I am accomplishing. It may seem like I’m not going anywhere (which in reality I’m not – I’m just sitting there pedaling) but when the numbers improve, I also know my stamina is improving.
We don’t always have to be moving to be growing spiritually. In fact, most of our growth can come when we are sitting still. Doesn’t God say, “Be still and know that I am God?” When does that happen the most? When we are sitting in God’s presence, holding his precious Word in our hands and letting that word fill our hearts.
It’s fine to exercise physically, but please take time to “rest in Him.” That’s where your spiritual strength will come from, and your faith will grow. Have a great day in the Lord.
