As mad as I can get at the squirrels when they eat up all the birdseed in my feeders, I have to admit they are one of God’s creatures that are simply fun to watch. One day I watched as two of them chased each other up and down the tallest tree in my yard. One seemed to be the “winner” as it made its last dash to the highest branch showing he had no fear at all and just seemed to be enjoying the breeze as the thin branch bounced up and down.
Have you ever tried to run from something; finding yourself just “grabbing for branches,” and then realizing you were just holding onto thinner and thinner branches the farther you went and finally realized there was no hope or security out there?
Yes, our squirrels appear fearless. But, guess what? We can be fearless, too.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” II Timothy 1:7
Rather than run, we can rest. Rather than climb out on those thin branches trying to flee from troubles, we can claim God’s promises, and He will give us peace.
Don’t let fear “chase you up a tree.” Don’t let the winds bounce you up and down. God has you. You are in His hands. Fear not!
