The words of a precious old hymn keep resounding in my mind lately. They have challenged my heart. I’m sharing them this morning to also bless and challenge you. The hymn: “Only One Life,” by Avis Christiansen –
Only one life to offer – Jesus my Lord and King. Only one tongue to praise thee – And of thy mercy sing. Only one heart’s devotion – Savior, O may it be – Consecrated alone to thy matchless glory – Yielded fully to thee.
(These words say it all, don’t they? If Jesus is truly our Lord and King, how can we not yield our life and heart completely to Him and use our tongue to praise Him for his great mercy to us?) It goes on:
Only this hour is mine, Lord – May it be used for thee. May ev’ry passing moment count for eternity. Souls all about are dying, dying in sin and shame. Help me bring them the message of Calv’rys redemption, in thy glorious name.
(We don’t know the days of our lives. They are in God’s hands. Only this hour, this moment is ours. Let’s make it count for eternity. That includes taking the message of redemption to the souls that are dying in sin and shame.)
God has given us life; may all we do be in His glorious name.
