These past few weeks could have had me “pulling my hair out” had it not been for my loving and caring God. It seemed there was one thing after another attacking me physically, emotionally, and just some unexpected problems within my house that needed to be taken care of.
I usually go to the Psalms in times like these and, WOW – God did it again! The content of Psalm 91 describes God so well. Some of His names are mentioned as well as many characteristics and what He does for those who trust Him. The whole chapter spoke to my heart (what He had done for me over those few weeks), and brought me encouragement and peace. I hope you will take time to read it yourself, but I am going to list some of these names along with His characteristics, so you, too, will praise God for WHO He is and all He does for you;
(The Most High God–The Almighty–He’s a refuge/a fortress–He delivers–He’s a shield (a protector)–He says to “fear not”–He says no evil will befall you–He gives His angels charge over us–He’s with us in trouble–we can call on Him). God was all of that to me over those difficult days. Do you know anyone else like Him? I don’t.
The writer uses so much imagery, but what I especially like is the imagery of a mother bird protecting her young under her wings. We are safe in the arms of God–nothing can match that security. Verse 4 says, “He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge.” Don’t you just love that?
