My wake-up alarm on my phone rang the normal time. I hit the snooze button and waited to hear the second alarm five minute later telling me, “It’s time to get up!” But it barely groaned and then went silent. I had again failed to plug it in and charge the battery.
Do you ever feel like you need charging up: that your battery is dead or just not functioning the way it should; or you’ve reached the end of your rope and have nothing more to hang on to?
Sometimes we think we are invincible and can keep going full speed on our own and we forget to plug into our power source. God doesn’t expect us to or want us to live the Christian life on our own. We can’t forget that He lives within us – He is our life support in more than one way. Yes, we live and breathe for as long as He gives us breath; but He also gives us the strength every day to do the things He wants us to do. Think about these verses:
Phil. 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
Eph. 3:16 “That He would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man.”
Gal. 5:25 “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
God doesn’t force us to do anything. But we have the cord (the ability to plug it in). So it means making some choices to do or not do the following:
>Draw near to God
>Yield my life to Him
>Flee from sin
>Keep my heart clean – asking for forgiveness daily
>Pray often
>Read His Word
>Go to church
Scripture also says, “For in him (us) dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And you are complete in Him” Col. 2:9,10. The strength is there!
So you see, there really is no excuse for us not to be “charged up.” Our power source is right in us. We just have to stop ignoring Him and trying to do things on our own. It’s time we stay charged up!
