I love this grandfather’s clock in the corner of my dining room. My father-in-law made it many years ago. The chimes are soothing to my ears as well as the steady “tick-tock.” Of course, if I forget to wind it up, the clock will stop. Time, however, keeps going, doesn’t it? There’s no stopping of that. Many of us feel like time goes faster the older we get, but we know that isn’t really so.
God has given us this day. We are not promised tomorrow. Psalm 31:15 says, “My times are in your hand.” Psalm 90:10,12 says, “The days of our years are threescore years, and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away….So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Many don’t see that number of years. James 4:14 also says, “Life is a vapor and vanishes away.” It certainly does seem that way. Since I had my heart attack 2 years ago, I never take life for granted. Every morning the first thing I do is thank the Lord for a good night’s sleep, thank Him for another day, and thank Him for the breath I am breathing.
One day God’s clock for each of us will be brought to a standstill. Do you remember this saying? “Only one life, will soon be past; only what’s done for God will last.” You see, “the things that are seen are temporal; but the things that are not seen are eternal.” (I hope you can check out the rest of I Cor. 4:16-18). Col. 3:17 admonishes us in this way – “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
As Christians, we need to be, “Redeeming the time because the days are evil.” Eph. 5:16. God’s clock is ticking and nearing that midnight hour! “He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” II Pet. 6:9. One day that opportunity will be gone; that’s why He says in II Cor. 6:2 “..behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”
I hope in this moment of time you will consider your heart’s need. This may be the only moment of time you have; your last opportunity you have to make the greatest decision of your life; which will determine your eternal destiny. Just think – eternity – no ending of time!
