Remember Joshua and Caleb, two of the 12 spies that Moses sent into Canaan to bring back a report on all they saw? And what a report it was! The land was flourishing with “milk and honey,” so they said. One cluster of grapes was so large they had to carry it on a pole between two of them. But ten of the spies saw a problem – the people were strong, lived in fortified cities, and they saw giants (descendants of Anak) and felt that they were like grasshoppers compared to those in the land. No way were they going to try to take the land.
How quickly they had forgotten all the things God had done for them in bringing them out of Egypt where they had been slaves. He even parted the waters of the Red Sea and they crossed on DRY land! Wouldn’t this God be strong enough to give them victory over their giants in this land? Apparently not, so they thought.
Do we feel the same way when we’re faced with trials and problems in our lives? We often forget about all the good things going on in our life and only see the giants who are robbing us of our peace and joy. We see ourselves as weak grasshoppers unable to do anything and unwilling to press on. We see no hope in sight!
We need to have a “wake-up” call and remember what our God is like, what He is capable of doing and remind ourselves of all God has done for us in the past. He can, and will do the same for us again. Finding God’s promises in the Bible and claiming them are the way for victory over giants – no matter how big they are. Let God slay them for you!
