Driving to my daughter’s home for Thanksgiving proved to be a little nerve wracking this year. The traffic on the Thruway was terrible. Cars were passing me like I was standing still. However, I did have to laugh as I watched a string of cars “fly by me” only to soon see a whole line of brake lights suddenly come on as I drove closer and closer to them. At first, I thought there was an accident but, no, it was only a policeman in his car on the side of the road with its lights flashing, with a car he had pulled over. How funny. They didn’t want to get caught, too, so they slowed down!
Have you ever done something that you didn’t want to get caught doing? We might be so engrossed in it (whatever it is) that we don’t even realize how quickly it has taken over our life. We won’t see a police officer sitting in his car with lights flashing warning us to “slow down.” Perhaps there is a close friend who may give you some advice, but we have something greater – Some One greater – the Holy Spirit – who indwells us, who will convict us and lead us in the right direction. When that conviction does come, don’t resist it – yield to Him because He only has our good in mind.
