When I was a child growing up on my father’s farm; for years we didn’t have running water (imagine that!). My dad would draw water from our well and bring in a bucket of fresh, cold water for us to drink throughout the day. It was always so satisfying.
In John, chapter 4 of our Bibles we have the story of Jesus and the woman at the well. She had come to draw water from the physical well, but received so much more.
Verses 13b and 14 tells us this: Jesus said “Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again: but whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”
By the end of their conversation this woman believed Jesus was truly the Messiah they had been waiting for and the One who would give her that living water (everlasting life).
What about you? What “water” are you longing for that only Jesus can provide? Jesus’ well is bottomless and will satisfy every single need we have. Here’s just a few things that His “living water” will provide for you:
Salvation – “Rom. 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation.”
Assurance – John 10:28 “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
Hope – “Jer. 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusts in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.”
Comfort – II Cor. 1:3,4a “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our tribulation.”
Peace – “Phil. 4:7 “And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Strength – “Phil. 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
Forgiveness – I John 1:9 ” If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Whatever your need today, you can draw from HIS well at any time. So grab your bucket, let it down, and let God fill it up as only He can do. He will never disappoint you.
