Have you ever asked this question – Does Jesus Care – especially when you are going through some troubling waters? The disciples of Jesus did. Remember the story? They were in a ship with Jesus asleep in the stern and a terrible wind storm caused the waves to fill up the ship. They finally woke Jesus and asked, “Master, carest thou not that we perish?” (Mark 4:38). Immediately Jesus said to the sea, “Peace, be still,” and there was a great calm. He then asked them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?
I think Jesus remained asleep so He could do a work in their hearts and teach them even more about who He was. He’s Creator God and can calm a sea, but I think He also wanted to calm their souls and to make them realize in whose presence they were in. Jesus would not fail them.
Jesus doesn’t always calm our storms immediately, but He will be with us as we go through them. He wants us to learn to trust Him “during” the storms and to know He really cares. Think about these words from an old hymn and let them bless your heart today – “Does Jesus Care?”
Does Jesus care when my heart is pained too deeply for mirth and song – As the burdens press, and the cares distress, and the way grows weary and long?
Does Jesus care when my way is dark with a nameless dread and fear? As the daylight fades into deep night shades, does He care enough to be near?
Does Jesus care when I’ve tried and failed to resist some temptation strong? When for my deep grief I find no relief, tho my tears flow all the night long?
Does Jesus care when I’ve said goodbye to the dearest on earth to me, and my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks – Is it aught to Him? does He see?
O yes, He cares – I know He cares! His heart is touched with my grief; When the days are weary, the long nights dreary, I know my Savior cares.
Remember, you are not alone when your troubles press upon you. Don’t try to carry them alone. Do what this verse says:
“Casting all your care upon Him; for He cares for you.” I Pet. 5:7
