“Take a glass and put 168 drops of clear water (the number of hours in a week) and then drop 4 drops (or 3 or 2 or 1 depending upon how many services a week you attend church) of food coloring. The paleness of the color will tell you something about your spiritual life. Spend the greater part of those 168 hours in prayer, Bible study, and pursuit of God, and your spiritual life will take on new color!” — selected
Sounds good, I suppose. I thought about doing this, but–really? I don’t need “colored water” to tell me about my spiritual life. If I’m not walking and talking with the Lord every day, I’m not going to have peace, contentment, or joy. I’ll be worried, frustrated, and looking for happiness in myself and my choices rather than seeking God’s choices for my life. I’ll soon realize something is not right–my walk with God is slipping and I need to make some right choices; the first, asking God to forgive me and then to keep me walking with Him and in His Word every day.
Consider these verses:
“What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” I Cor. 6:19,20
So, what I really need to be doing is think about the choices I should be making. What do you think? The Holy Spirit is our guide. He will show us and let us know when things aren’t right in our spiritual walk.. We don’t need “colored water!”
