These past several weeks have been major spring cleaning days for me – or I should say major clean out days! I’m just tired of stuff taking up room and being worthless to hang on to. It’s not just the clothes that have gone to the Good Will, but the outdated, unused or half used bottles of this and that, that are never going to be used that needed to be thrown in the garbage. Even my garage got a once over and swept out – the same scenario there. But I did find a box of small useful tools that I could actually save and keep in the house. My last “attack project” was my little garden shed – now that was a tough one. Talk about outdated, dirty, half-used garden supplies just sitting on shelves since my in-laws were here; definitely was clean out time. What a change I made in there! But again I kept some very useful items.
Have you ever gotten very serious about doing a major spiritual “clean out” in your life? You’re tired of hanging on to the same old stuff, doing the same old stuff and you’re ready to say, “Enough with the stuff!” It’s going. I don’t want it in my life any more. It’s not benefiting me in any way; in fact it’s hindering my growth and keeping me from becoming more like my Savior. Whatever it may be, and it may be several things that need to be stuffed in the garbage. But I know there are things in your life that you will find you haven’t used in awhile and you need to clean them up and place them in a priority spot in your heart. Maybe it’s simply showing more love and kindness, not getting angry or bitter, being more patient, reading the Word more, praying. You’ll know what they are.
I procrastinated way too long to do this “clean out” and I’m afraid we can do the same with our spiritual lives. Be willing to say, “Enough. Clean-up time, here I come!”
