I actually enjoy spring cleaning. It brings me joy to smell the cleanliness and to be able to see thru the sparkling windows after winter has spotted them with the elements. My project this past week has been my closets. How do they get so full of “stuff?” So, I did some cleaning and reorganizing and getting rid of some of that “stuff!” If it was only taking up room and of no more use, it was gone! Adios! Sayonara!
We also need to do spring cleaning in our own lives–actually a whole lot more often than just spring time. Think about any “closet(s)” you may have in your own heart. Have you been filling it with stuff, or just not wanting or willing to get rid of it? You’ve been enjoying it; just hanging on to whatever pleasure it is giving you. It may be a little sin or a bigger one and season by season it’s crowding out the things that need to be in your heart. It’s time to say, “Enough,” to the stuff! Choose to let it go; choose to ask God’s forgiveness; choose to let God fill you with His goodness; with things that will make your life “sparkle” and shine for Him. Here are a few things you can consider:
“Put to death (clean out) sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire and covetousness, which is idolatry….But now also put off (clean out some more) anger, wrath, malice, slander, obscene talking, lie not one to another.” Col. 3:5,8,9
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9
It’s time to start, “spring cleaning,” my friends. Is there a closet in a room of your heart that you need to begin cleaning?
