I was recently given this mug. Yes, it looks like two different mugs, but it’s only one. The mug with the black butterflies is when it’s empty and cold. But pour hot coffee, tea, or chocolate into it and slowly the beautiful colors of the butterflies appear. It’s changed! Awesome to watch.
This is so like the Christian. We are all born with the blackness of sin in our lives. But when we trust Christ as our Savior, scripture says, “we are a new creation, old things are passed away, behold all things become new,” II Cor. 5:17. And little by little as we “grow in Christ” and mature in our faith, we become more like our Savior.
But let me ask you; when the heat of trials come upon you, do you respond as though you still look like that “black mug;” responding in the flesh? Or do you respond in a way that the beautiful “colors” of our Lord are seen? God says, “You are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit,” (as a child of God – Rom. 8:9); so why not act like it?
We don’t automatically become a mature Christian, but it’s awesome to watch “a newborn babe in Christ;” watch as they make right choices, do the right things and see their lives being changed into a colorful testimony for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.
“As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.” Col. 2:6
What does “your mug” look like?
