The moon was still breaking through some clouds when I began my morning walk. It did give some light, but I had to be careful where I was stepping so as not to stumble and fall. One of my fears is doing just that and so “caution” is the word I often adhere to.
Perhaps that’s a word we all should practice more often. Many times our paths are dark and unfamiliar and we don’t know what to expect around the next corner. It seems, at times, there is no light to guide us. Maybe that’s because we are looking for that “light” in the wrong places; looking to ourselves; to our own wisdom and abilities.
The spiritual light we need obviously comes from the “SON!” He is the Light of the world. His word gives light to our paths and directs our ways. It gives us the wisdom we need when we don’t know what to do. it gives us peace and gives us hope in the darkest of times.
We, too, can be lights to a lost and dying world. However, if we want to be that, we need to be in God’s Word so that light will first shine in our own hearts and then be a beacon for others to see and follow. As the moon can’t shine without the help of the sun; neither can we shine without the SON!
“I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12
“You are the light of the world….Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matt. 5:14a, 16
So, use caution on your journeys; but know where and to whom you can turn to for your light. And in turn, be a light in a dark and sinful world. We need to be a reflection of Jesus
