To look at my jade plant you’d never guess it stated as a 4 inch “slip” given to me by my mother-in-law. Dipping it in “Root Grow,” sticking it into potting soil, and keeping it watered is all I did. Now, after just a few years, you can see the results. The stem is thick and strong; the leaves also thick, shiny and healthy.
Isn’t this what Jesus wants us to be like? Thick–filled with his word; strong–in our faith; shining–letting our light shine for Him–healthy–trusting in the Lord. Jesus is called the Vine in Scripture; we are the branches. As we abide in Him we, too, will be all of these things. The “water” we need (the Word of God) is vital every day. Unlike the leaves on my plant which can fall off easily if bumped, we know that nothing can separate us from Jesus. No matter what kind of bumps we are going through Jesus is always there. He’ll never let us go.
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom. 8:38,39
Will people see a growth in your (my) Christian life as every year goes by?
