What an example of a mother of faith – her name not as familiar as others – Jochebed, the mother of Moses. Just mentioning Moses, however, and many know the story of his birth. Jochebed and her husband, Amram, were godly people who knew the promises of God – that His people would be delivered from Egypt. It was nearing that time, and when Moses was born, they knew he was a “proper child” and they didn’t fear Pharoah’s command to destroy all baby boys. Instead, their faith was put into action. Look at the events taken from Heb. 11:23 “By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment:”
For 3 months they hid Moses – They did not throw him into the river expecting God to save him. – When she couldn’t hide him any longer she built an ark of bulrushes and made it waterproof. She continued to do all she could – Then she placed Moses inside the ark and laid it in the reeds by the river’s edge (turning him completely over to God). – She rested in the Lord – He would do the rest. You know the result.
We are living in troublesome days – our children are surrounded with all kinds of evil and dangerous situations. God expects us to do our part – do everything possible to instill the truths of the Word of God in their hearts and lives, and teach them how to live for the Lord. The day will come when we have to let them go. But when we do, we can rest in the Lord and trust God to accomplish His purpose in their lives and honor our faith.
Let me encourage you – dare to trust God as Jochebed did. Do all you can to teach your children the things of the Lord – Do your part – never cease, never weary, and then trust God for the results – He will do for you and your child what you cannot do yourself.
