I have written before about how I’ve been “cleaning out” and getting rid of several things. My husband had several thick notebooks filled with sermon material, illustrations, etc. that I had been going through one by one. A majority of them got tossed. But there were two that captured my attention. My husband kept everything that had to do with our ministry. Both of our testimonies of salvation and our call of God to go into full time ministry were in the beginning of one. Our ministry began as home missionaries, so Autry had letters we sent out to pastors/churches, camps and conferences we ministered at, and our call to our first work. From there he saved all the monthly news letters we sent to churches and other supporters or prayer warriors. Each contained information on what was transpiring in our lives and work. As I had forgotten many of the things God had done, it was such a blessing to be reminded of God’s faithfulness to us – how He provided for us and what He was doing in our own lives and the lives of our people and so much more.
So, will I throw these notebooks away? Absolutely not! They are our life’s story. For one thing, if I ever get discouraged and wonder what God is doing, I can reread these entries and see what God did in the past and know He is in control and will be as faithful to me now as He was when Autry and I were together in fulltime ministry.
No, I don’t know what’s next; nor do you. But we have a God who does know; and as He is faithful to us, we need to be faithful to follow Him.
