Even though it’s been 58 years ago, I can still remember exactly where I was and what happened when I trusted Jesus as my personal Savior. I was by myself, in our home in Rochester, NY, and after hearing the pastor preach from the Word of God for several weeks, I was convicted one day of my sin and need for salvation. I prayed and acknowledged my sin and belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did for me on the cross. I knew I was born again. Shortly after that God led me to what I call my life’s verse:
“I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I but Christ lives in me, and the life that I now live, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.” Gal. 2:20
And during a church service, shortly after I was saved, one of the hymns we sang was “Now I Belong to Jesus.”
Jesus my Lord will love me forever, From Him no pow’r of evil can sever;
He gave His life to ransom my soul – Now I belong to Him!
Once I was lost in sin’s degradation, Jesus came down to bring me salvation,
Lifted me up from sorrow and shame – Now I belong to Him!
Joy floods my soul, for Jesus has saved me, Freed me from sin that long had enslaved me
His precious blood He gave to redeem – Now I belong to Him!
Chorus: Now I belong to Jesus, Jesus belongs to me – Not for the years of time alone, But for eternity.
These words are still precious to me. I belong to Jesus! How special is that? Can you say that? Do you know for sure you belong to Him; do you remember the day that became true in your life? If not, today could be that day for you.
