A rose – to me there is no prettier flower. My single yellow rose bloomed and blessed my heart just this past week. A yellow rose is a symbol of friendship and also of love.
In the Book of The Song of Solomon 2:1, although spoken by Solomon’s bride, the words have become famous descriptions of Christ:
“I am the rose of Sharon, the lily of the valleys.”
A few verses later it says:
“He brought me to the banqueting house, And his banner over me is love.”
So my yellow rose reminds me that Jesus is not only our friend, but he loves us – His church, the bride of Christ (of which we are a part if we have trusted Him as Savior and Lord).
“His banner” – His protective banner of love is over us and one day He will take us to His banqueting table in heaven.
There is nothing greater than the love of God and knowing that “I am His and He is mine.”
Loved with everlasting love,
Led by grace that love to know:
Spirit, breathing from above,
Thou hast taught me it is so!
In a love which cannot cease,
I am His and He is mine.
The rose – what a beautiful picture of Christ!
