Christ is the Answer

Scripture:  Ephesians chapter 2-6

Last week our focus was on “our purpose,” which is to glorify God in our lives; just as Jesus glorified the Father in His life. As we continue this thought the question is, “How can we represent the One Who lives within us?”

We established the fact that Christ is the Head over all things and the church is His body.

“And has put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him that fills all in all.” Eph. 1:22,  23

Our Creator, Savior, the most wonderful person in the world says we have become his fullness or completeness! Here’s the picture—the Head (Christ) finds the fullness of expression through the body (church/believers).

>The body depends on the Head for wisdom and direction.

>The Head depends on the body for expression of its mind, will, and wisdom.

>The inner relationship described in John 15 (previous lessons) becomes an inwardly controlled partnership, each doing its appointed part.

Here is where the problem was: In the Garden of Eden, Satan put a wedge between God and man (he took  man out from under the authority and control of God.

Eph 2:5 starts out with the word, “BUT!”

But God who is rich in mercy and his great love wherein He loved us, even when we

were dead in sins, has made us alive together with Christ; by grace are you saved.”

In His grace, Christ did not die and rise alone.  He made us alive together with Him.  He has already seated us in Christ in the heavenlies—all the resources of Christ are available to us.  Eph. 2:4-7

So, we are His new creation, responsive to Him.

>Before—we walked according to the course of this world. (2:2)

>Now—His power works in us helping us to live as we should.

“That you may know what is the hope of His calling and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints is and what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power” Eph. 1:18, 19.

>Ephesians, chapter 4 tells us we are to put off the former “old man” and be renewed in the spirit of His mind. (vs. 22, 23)

>We are not to grieve the Holy Spirit of God (vs. 30)

>We are to be filled with the Spirit (5:18)

>We even have the whole armor of God available to us (Eph. 6) to stand against the wiles of the devil.

We are NOT on our own in this Christian walk. Our great God is in us! Yes, we are in a warfare, but as we yield, abide, and draw upon Christ’s resources, we will be conquerors! We will be representatives of our Lord and Savior.

Paul wrote a prayer to the Ephesians and I am writing it here, and praying it for each of you from Eph. 3:16-21

“..that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

He is the POWER–our Power.
