Philosophy of the Christian Life Part II

Scripture:  Romans chapters 6

Last week we realized we all are identified “In Adam” upon our physical birth.  When we trust Christ as our personal Savior we are identified “In Christ.” This is the whole thrust of our Christian walk.  Let me continue to show you with scripture all that this means for each of us as a child of God.

THINK ABOUT THIS:

Romans, chapter 6 gives several declarations of our actual identification with the death of Christ.

Vs. 2 – We DIED to sin.

Vs. 3 – We were BAPTIZED into His death.

Vs. 4 – We were BURIED with Him through BAPTISM into death.

Vs. 5 – We became UNITED with Him in the LIKENESS of His death.

Vs. 6 – Our old man was CRUCIFIED with Him.

Vs 7 – He that has died is JUSTIFIED (freed) from sin.

Vs. 8 – We DIED with Christ.

Vs. 11 – Reckon yourself DEAD unto sin, but ALIVE unto God in Christ.

Vs.13 –Present yourselves unto God as ALIVE from the dead.

WOW!  Do you grasp this?  I hope you will look up these verses and ponder this all week.

There are also four words used in chapter 6 that are extremely important in our Christian walk.  They are found in the above verses.

  1. KNOW (vs. 3,6,9) It’s not based on feelings. We don’t have to wonder, because God has said it is so.
  2. RECKON – (vs. 11; cp. Gal. 2:20) means to count on or rely on.
  3. YIELD – (vs. 13, 26, 19) This is our responsibility – How can we not do this after all Christ has one for us?
  4. OBEY – (vs. 16, 17) – This will come naturally as we yield to Him.

REMEMBER THIS:

I want to leave you with one simple but powerful statement for you to remember this week:

CHRIST WAS MADE TO BE WHAT WE WERE

THAT WE MIGHT BECOME IN HIM, WHAT HE IS!

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me:

and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God

who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

Gal. 2:20

I can think of no greater verse than this to summarize our identification of being “IN CHRIST.”

Lots for you to think about this week!
